YEAH I KNOW IT SUCKS
Martin Rach with Jeemobson open this excellent compilation with ‘for the bearers of the flag’ which is like a mix of that mad drummer from the muppetshow in a spasm, a revolution, snippets and sniffets of jazz, mister oizo bass, volcano notes coming out of nowhere, piano keys flying spontaneously into your ear, horns shot out of airy instruments and even opera singers seems to twirl around. It’s a construction of delighted madness! It only gets better, wilder and madder & good luck to find anyone not able to enjoy this creative randomness.
Talking about madness ‘another music in a different kitchen’ by Klonk is pretty mad. Somehow I can see Klonk passing by with a kitchen of wheels, the portable cookery has all these little bells around it in order to let the entire street know that Klonk’s kitchen is here. You can hear the glass bottles filled with kitchen spices, spoons twirling into bowls of mysterious cooking! It’s making me hungry!
Small Things On Sundays comes up next with ‘Sless take4 (live studio) and sounds so smooth and wonderful. If Klonk brought you in the mood for eating, then Small Things On Sunday’s work would be the perfect track to feel fulfilled by. It has all these nice smooth transitions, warm and thick, hollow and slightly dangerous in a spicy/cool milky way. Beautiful.
The legendary legends among ambient legends ‘Mystified’ is also making a great wonderful appearance on this compilation. His work ‘lifting heavy weights’ is him doing what he does best, creating a very smooth haunting pleasure accompanied with nice beats to give the smooth darkness a nice energetic byte and feel to it. Loving the stringy and voice details; mystified proofs again that it’s all about the right ingredients & placing them together in the right way.
XNDL’s SOS brings the bass, the thick beats, the dancehall ‘let’s go’ voices and electric electronicness to get that extra electric chair kinda buzz and feel; let’s call it the ‘spice of life’. The music with its sparkling top bit that nicely circles around is all working out perfectly to get a nice flow of energy out that no energy drink could beat.
Then it’s time to go truly underground, in which our heads are completely stumped to dust from a sheering load of pills and pounded by an emersive force of overdosing raves. Humanhate666 brings the sound of a smashed up party goers head with only a few braincells left, and you can hear them dying to register the last left over bits from a pounding hellish rave. You might be going down, but at least you’ll be gone in style!
Where the previous artist provided the departure of a raver’s braincells, ORiFiCE reattempts to bring them back to life with a full on last resorting dose of ‘tiflis oder später’. It starts like a shot of adrenaline, a techno stab on the ears and chest in order to bring the braindead back to life and then forcibly splashing the left over mushy brains with hardcore hiss and noise for refreshment. Will it work? I bet ya!
A collaboration between Python vs Cobra + Coco + huh comes alove in ‘number sicks’ a nice rambling work in which it feels as if the cracked head is reassembled, slapped into a stumbling mess in which it tries to remember its own identity. Resulting In forms of dada art, snippets of hard rock missers, avant-garde memories, mentally unstable abstractions, world music, aggression and monkey yells.
Exedo brings in a very sharp sounding work named ‘plume’ to the rehabilitation part of this excellent compilation. With every move the ears will be tornmented, twisted in knobs, twirled in ropes and yet none of these things will make the massive penetrating noise sound any less penetrative. Exedo succeeded to create the harshest work of them all, clearly holding all hands up in the air from responsibility clearly heading to completely destroy all that was left of you and your friendly ears.
Kommissar Hjuler Und Frau have the last task to nurse your bleeding ears with their strange ‘untitled’ work that feels like them being multiplied, twirling around your head with caring words, jingling in the madness that feels like you are being nursed in the cozy environment of a shed owned by a cult with dubious intentions. Welcome to the interesting new life!

Nine crisp exercises in exorcising conventions from music: This is all about creating structure and beauty from either anarchic burst-outs or tentative groping – using guitar, drums, voice, and occasionally other sounds from tapes and electronic devices.
Python vs Cobra is a duo of drums and guitar, and so is HUH, already featured with an album in attenuation circuit’s Rollator Series. Both duos collaborate with vocalist and: tape manipulator Coco, and the result is a series of various pieces that vary greatly in character, but always celebrate a truly daring spirit of experimentation. You never know in advance if it’s going to be noisy or gentle, and this kind of surprise is, after all, one of the things that art is about. Some of the tracks, all recorded in Tokyo in September 2013, feature Yuko Under on electronics.
File under: Free improvisation, noise

Review Bad Alchemy:
Was immer das da ist auf The Discussion (ACE 1006, CD-R), es ist ultrakaputter herrlicher Scheiß. Zweimal Gitarre und crashed beats, einmal japanisch: Kyosuke Terada + Takuma Mori = HUH, einmal nichtjapanisch: Thiébault Imm + Kévin Angboly = PYTHON VS COBRA. Dazu COCO, obskure Brutalhappychansonette in Berlin. Mit schamanistisch-voodooeskem Ritualrip-off, zentrifugalem Dadaschlamassel. Kurzweilige 26 Minuten, keine Zeit für langes Wenn und Aber. Daher einfach nur: Arrghll! Augen zu und springen! D/B Recommend: STAALTAPEFEST @ Staalplaat Store Berlin | August 2011
Michael Rosen29. June 2011
Staaltapefest offers to Berliners and visitors to Berlin alike a good possibility to encounter some of the hidden jewels but also some of the established creators in the Berlin scene.
Preslav Literary School’s presence develops like a drone that slowly fills the hearts and souls of a growing number of devoted listeners. While at the other end of the scale and the programme, Joke Lanz, already has won wide spread recognition and admiration thanks to a long sounding career.
Those two renommated artists are the alpha and omega of four Saturdays in August during which you can encounter the polyphonic architecture of short and other sound waves by Erik Levander, the highly versatile Anton Mobin and Coco‘s intriguing use of dictaphone and voice.
Long time associates like Seiji Morimoto and Kakawaka join up in a unique collaborative moment, especially developed for the occasion.
Preslav Literary School | “Live at Kringloop”
Man Karton with his Auerbacher pastorale will combine elements of radio play and absurdist theatre. Ute Waldhausen is another performer who rarely can be seen on Berlin stages, expect plunderphonics and a parrot’s head.
For your aftershow pleasures, the bars on the Weserstrasse, our friends from O Tannenbaum on Sonnenallee as well as the more obscure typical Berliner Bars are all on walking distance from the venue. ( 7-10 minutes more or less).
